Infra laying pipes along Mighty Grynner Highway

A six-month pipe-laying project in the vicinity of Holborn, St Michael, is scheduled to end by Tuesday morning once all goes well.

Infra Barbados has been laying new fuel lines for Sol. The project started since November last year near Central Purchasing and has now crossed the road.

As a result, sections of the Mighty Grynner Highway in the vicinity of Holborn – near the traffic lights – are impassable and motorists should seek alternative routes.

Infra Barbados project manager Jason Carter said this section of the work started around 7 p.m. Thursday and “if everything does well” should be finished by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“We now have to undermine all the existing Barbados Water Authority, Light & Power, sewage etc. [pipes],” he explained on Good Friday, adding representatives from those entities were on hand in the event anything went wrong, to effect repairs.

Carter said there were “a lot of unknown pipes that weren’t expected to be there in any of the drawings”. He believes some of them are very old.

Infra has been operating ten-man crews on 24-hour shifts to get the job done.  (SAT)
