Hope for stronger ties

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley yesterday thanked Ghana for having the courage to go out on its own as a republic, saying it was such actions that could lead more small-island developing states to also take the plunge.

She also expects ties between African countries and CARICOM member states to become even stronger in the coming years.

Mottley made the comments while delivering the feature address at Ghana’s 65th Independence anniversary celebrations early yesterday morning.

“Today I’m filled with such hope, and I’m so happy to be here with you to celebrate the 65th Independence [Day] of your country. On behalf of the people and Government of Barbados, I extend our warmest congratulations on the attainment of this milestone,” Mottley told the Ghanaians present at the Cape Coast Stadium.

She noted that once again, Ghana had shown its capacity to rise, and to say to the world, ‘we shall and we will’. (BA)
