High demand for home care

There is a growing demand for home care services for seniors, as many of them prefer to remain in their homes and familiar environments as they age.

Acting director of the National Assistance Board, Colleen Walcott, told the Sunday Sun that while every month some 30 elderly Barbadians are approved for home care assistance, there are currently just 144 home care workers. She said that number was not enough to meet the demand.

“Each month, the demand is increasing and we have to use our resources as efficiently and effectively as possible so that quality care is delivered,” Walcott said. (CH)
