Former CARIFTA Champion Aaron Worrell produced a sensational performance to win the men’s heptathlon and establish a new national record at the Bearcat Invitational meet in Maryville, Missouri, United States.
Worrell, a former Alexandra School and St Michael School student, totalled a personal best points tally of 5411 to capture gold for Azusa Pacific University and propel him up to third on the US national list.
It was truly a day to remember for the 23 year-old, who not only recorded the most points in the event in Barbados’ history, but became the island’s all-time leader in the pole vault, as he cleared a height of 4.01 metres on Saturday.
Worrell removed the previous records of 4 502 points and 3.60 metres set by Clifford Brooks in 1979 and 1977, respectively.
