ATTORNEY GENERAL DALE MARSHALL is coming under more fire for comments meant to reassure the public when he said that the recent spate of killings resulted from gunmen in specific “groups” targeting each other.
Yesterday, chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Trisha Tannis, said hearing that was little comfort as the innocent could be “in the wrong place at the wrong time”.
She was speaking on Starcom Network’s call-in programme Down To Brass Tacks, during which the focus was on the deadly gun violence of the past six days and violence overall.
“I don’t think that the fact persons or groups as we call them – I think we know the name for that group is gang and I don’t know why we think that we are being coy in using that word – we all know they are referring to gangs and the fact that they are going at each other but that they are going at each other in public places does not invite a set of peace.
“It fills me with no peace whatsoever that I could be walking into my business and because I am at the wrong place at the wrong time somebody is driving by and shoots and there is [a] mass casualty . . . I don’t think that’s the way we should be communicating with the public as far as trying to build confidence,” Tannis said.
