Heat ‘not over the top’

There are more hot days to come, but as Barbadians complain, weather forecasters are saying the heat is no more blistering than in the past.

Yesterday, the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) issued a release saying that maximum temperatures have been peaking “between 32 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, particularly in the urban areas, which is normal during this period”.

It said that the temperatures would continue into the greater part of October, adding that the two months are “climatologically the warmest months of the year”.

“The heat is not over the top. I know it feels very, very hot out there today [yesterday], but it’s not over the top,” a spokesperson at the BMS said.

Family physician Dr Adrian Lorde, who said he has seen a few patients with symptoms of heat illness, advised Barbadians to drink lots of water, stay indoors during the hottest period of the day, and wear light clothing.
