The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a flash-flood watch for the western and northwestern districts of Barbados due to expected excessive rainfall this afternoon.
The watch is in effect until 6 p.m. today, or until conditions improve.
The BMS warns that the forecasted heavy rainfall, with potential accumulation of 2 to 4 inches (50mm to 100mm), could lead to significant flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
Residents in these districts should be aware of the possibility of soil erosion, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and potential commuting delays. Some roads may even become impassable, particularly in and around the city.
This flash-flood watch highlights the risk of flash flooding due to heavy rainfall within a short period. While it does not guarantee flooding will occur, the conditions make it a real possibility.
