Fewer fish for Easter

Fisherfolk at this point say they are looking at a dismal Easter period, with low sales and fewer fish in stock ahead of the season.

While the flavours of the holy holiday traditionally lean toward pescatarian dishes, some vendors at Paynes Bay, St James, and the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex are finding a variety of challenges in the sales and supply of fish.

Bigger fish like dolphin and swordfish were in short supply and though they were able to source a handful of flying fish, it was nowhere close to their expected stock. These woes were compounded by a noted decrease in people purchasing.

The accounts of the fisher folk were reflected in the muted activity around the markets yesterday, as vendors, who shared their accounts with the Sunday Sun, found that sales were few and far between.
