Defending champions CIBC Caribbean RTEA Elite, Sauna and Rubis all signalled their championship bids when the ninth edition of the Village Camp Shotgun road tennis tournament was served off at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Tennis Facility in Bush Hall yesterday.
With the blistering heat of the early morning and midday sun matching the fierceness of the competition on court, Rubis created a stir in the opening match of the day as they stunned RTEA Elite in the mixed doubles.
Former national footballer Adrian “Fly” Forde and Crystal Harewood combined to shock Curtis Jones and Kim Holder 21-17.
Elite rebounded in the team competition outshining the Rubis Emeralds 3-0. Junior Kenoja Belgrave set the tone with a 21-8 dismissal of Damani Sandiford. Antonio Yearwood then beat Forde 21-11 before six-footer Tyrease Holder stopped Shaquan Henry 21-16 to crack the Emeralds. (KB)
