North Sound – England were 57 for four in their first innings against West Indies at lunch on the first day of the first Test on Tuesday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.
At the interval, Ben Stokes was not out on five and Jonny Bairstow was not out on the same score, after the English won the toss and decided to bat.
Long-serving pacer Kemar Roach grabbed 2-31 from eight overs before lunch and West Indies made a bright start to the match when they removed the England top order batting cheaply.
Roach made the breakthrough when he trapped debutant left-handed opener Alex Lees lbw for four, playing defensively forward to a delivery that moved back in the third over, and bowled England captain Joe Root for 13.
Roach was unfortunate when Jermaine Blackwood dropped England captain Joe Root, on nine, at second slip, but the pacer made sure he and the Windies did not pay dearly.
In between, Jayden Seales, sharing the new ball with Roach, got Zac Crawley caught behind for eight from an inside edge, as England sunk to 27 for three in the first hour.
In the second hour of play, Jason Holder struck in his third over after England reached 39 for three at the drinks break when Dan Lawrence played defensively forward and edged him to second slip for 20.
