Elizabeth make it five on the trot at SMS Glow

House Elizabeth ran out clear winners at the 2023 St Michael School Glow Sports at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex on Friday night.

The third edition, officially known as the Jennifer Swanston-Jones Classic, did not disappoint the thousands in attendance who gladly watched the spectacle from the stands and every vantage point.

The victorious Purple House stretched their winning streak to enjoy a fifth consecutive title, despite the three-year hiatus due to the restrictions introduced to combat COVID-19.

Elizabeth stormed both track and field to dominate by 294 points. Amassing 1 021.5 points, they were the only house team to surpass the 1 000-point mark; no one could disagree that they were rightful champions.

House Anne (Yellow) tried their best, but their 727.5 points was no match for the victors. Boadicea (Blue House) and Victoria (Red) were far off the pace, scoring 610 and 565 points, respectively.

All was not doom and gloom for Boadicea who can boast Victrix Ludorum Azara Husbands as well as the impressive Brieanna Boyce who looked in excellent form as she completed a triple victory in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres sprints; the latter of which earned her a meet record with a time of 57.17 which removed the old mark of 57.39 set by Leah Barker in 2014.

Husbands’ copped the Victrix Ludorum title with 73 points, while Aaron Massiah’s 89 ensured that he stood out as Victor Ludorum.

The night ended on an even sweeter note for House Elizabeth and The St Michael School when it was announced that 2022 CARIFTA Games bronze medallist Josiah Parris had secured a track scholarship to the University of Kansas. (RW)
