Elderly man living in leaning house

Carlisle Howard, 67, is living on the edge.

His ramshackle home is teetering on a slope overlooking Station Hill, St Philip, and neighbours and friends fear it is only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down.

“That house is in bad shape and one day it may collapse onto the road with Carlisle in it and if that happens, it may kill him. I’m glad to see him get a little help; it’s only he one, all he needs is a l’il one bedroom,” said friend Hugh Belgrave.

One neighbour said the road was a busy one and believed a disaster was poised to happen.

“As you can see, the house is in a dangerous position and my fear is an innocent person will be passing on the road and it drops down on them. This is one of the main arteries between St John andSt Philip. Between 6:30 and 9 a.m. and 2 and 5 p.m. out here is like Broad Street (The City), including schoolchildren from [The] Lodge [School] and [The] Codrington [School]. I don’t know how he can live so comfortably in there; I really would like to see him get some help,” he said. (CA)
