Early morning fire razes two houses

Fire devastated two houses and damaged two others along Codrington Main Road, St Michael, on Friday.

It did not claim any human lives, but a pet dog may not have been so lucky.

Station Officer Damian Bayne told Starcom Network earlier in the day that the Barbados Fire Service responded with two water tenders, one from the Bridgetown Port Station and the other from the Bridgetown Station, and a total of ten officers.

Next-door neighbour Nicole Murrell is thanking God and the firemen that the home she shares with her family did not sustain much damage. However, the same could not be said for neighbour Andy Simmons, who Murrell said only managed to save the pants he wore.

“Our neighbour Andy was home and I saw him trying to save his dog, but the dog was scared and hid under the house, so he was unable to save it. I was terrified but I was also heartbroken for him; he had just made a big payment on that house, plus his dog was gone too,” she said. (CA)
