‘Don’t waste education’

TOO MANY STUDENTS are leaving school without certificates, says chief executive officer and registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Dr Wayne Wesley.

However, he said the agency was doing its best to encourage more students to consider their citizenship and technical education certificate (CTEC) programme, which so far has been piloted in Montserrat, Jamaica and Guyana.

“We are concerned that there are a great number of students leaving the education system without certification. Consequently, we have designed our  CTEC, a programme that is geared towards inculcating strong moral character, life skills and technical skills that will equip our graduates with the skills necessary to perform in society,” Wesley said.

He made those comments yesterday in St Lucia during a ceremony at which the 2022 CXC results were assessed.

While pointing out that many people did not benefit from free education or the same quality of education as many individuals do now, he urged students to take advantage of their opportunities.
