Dems want poor eased in Budget

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) wants the burden lifted from the poor and working class which has borne the brunt of the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact for the last two years when the Budget is delivered tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley’s presentation, spokesman for the party Ryan Walters said there were two burning issues that needed to be dealt with.

“These are the cost of fuel which affects not only when you drive into the gas station but the electricity bills of every household and business and the cost of locally produced goods; and secondly the rising cost of food on the shelves. These are the focus areas and must be addressed in a significant way that either brings relief to the pockets of Bajans or an abrupt halt to further increases,” he said.

Walters said the laying of the Estimates was filled with heavy figures and could be tedious for some, noting the Budget provided the average Barbadian the opportunity to understand Government’s plans to spend taxpayers’ money and its immediate impact on them. (AC)
