Dems report recent boost in members

As the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) heads into its 67 annual conference this weekend, nine months after its crushing defeat at the polls, the party is reporting an injection of youth membership.

This was disclosed by the DLP’s first vice-president Steve Blackett, who said that 300 people joined the party in the last seven months, 195 of which came on board in the last three months.

Blackett, who was speaking yesterday at a press conference at the DLP’s George Street headquarters to outline the plans to celebrate the milestone, said that he believes that having a millennial as the party leader appears to be a magnetising force for young people.

It was last May that the party membership elected University of the West Indies law lecturer Dr Ronnie Yearwood as president, over party stalwart Dr David Estwick. (CLM)
