Covid caution to partygoers

People celebrating the New Year tonight have been advised to exercise caution as COVID-19 is now in the endemic phase.

The note of caution comes from director of the Centre of Biosecurity Studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Dr Kirk Douglas.

An endemic is when a disease occurs regularly within an area or community and Douglas said new strains might emerge.

“I think throughout the world what we can do is not panic, but to make preparation for increased mortality and morbidity. Partygoers should as usual exercise caution and know their personal health status. For example, if they are suffering from key co-morbidities such as asthma, hypertension, kidney disease, immunocompromised, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes; they should all be extra careful,” he advised.

He added that outdoor events will be less risky than those indoor with circulating air.  (Nation News)
