COVID-19 update for Thursday, September 22

Health authorities reported on Friday only 17 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases were detected overnight.

The authorities disclosed in their daily news release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service, seven males and 10 females – including three young people under the age of 18 – tested positive for the viral illness from the 282 tests conducted on Thursday, September 22, by laboratories across the island.

The news release added that there were 33 people being medically treated in government isolation facilities, while another 300 were being monitored under the home isolation programme managed by the Ministry of Health & Wellness at the time of reporting.

Health authorities also reported that 163 612 people (71.6 per cent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.

The number of people now considered fully vaccinated rose to 154,633 (57 per cent of the total population or 67.7 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population is anyone 12 years and older.
