COVID-19 update for results on August 8

Health authorities reported on Tuesday that three men died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) the weekend, and another 608 people tested positive for the viral illness on Monday, August 8.

According to a news release from the Barbados Government Information Service, two men, aged 88 and 91, died on Friday, August 5, from the viral illness, while another, aged 74, died on Sunday, August 7.

Their deaths brought the number that have succumbed to the illness in Barbados to 505.

Health authorities indicated that 244 males and 364 females tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, out of the 1 655 samples tested by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The cases ccomprised 73 youth under the age of 18, and the remaining 535 are adults 18 years and older.

There were 67 people in isolation facilities at the time of the report, while 3 406 were in home isolation.

In the news release, health authorities noted that 163 008 people (71.4 per cent of the eligible population) have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine under the national vaccination programme.

The total number of fully vaccinated persons has moved to 154 109 (56.9 per cent of the total population or 67.5 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents anyone 12 years and older.
