COVID-19 update for July 20

Health authorities reported on Thursday a further 400 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Barbados.

From 1 016 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on Wednesday, July 20, the authorities indicated that 140 males and 260 females were identified with the viral illness.

Of the positive cases, 69 people were under the age of 18, and the remainder were adults over the age of 18.

There were 53 people in government isolation facilities, and 1 957 were in home isolation.

Only 24 more people received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday under the national vaccination programme, carrying the total number to 162 858 (71.3 per cent of the eligible population).

Another 23 people are now fully vaccinated, taking the total number to 153 865 (56.8 per cent of the total population or 67.4 per cent of the eligible population).

The eligible population represents people who are 12 years and older.
