The famous Soup Bowl in Bathsheba will host more than 200 of the world’s best surfers from 14 countries in the Caribbean’s largest ever surf competition, the Diamonds International Barbados Surf Pro Qualifying Series (QS) 5000.
And the fifth edition of the Live Like Zander Junior Pro will also run from March 27 to April 2.
After the success of last year’s event, which attracted hundreds of visitors, organisers Surf Promotions Barbados successfully lobbied the World Surf League (WSL) to upgrade the event from a QS 3000 to 5000.
As a result, it will be the English-speaking Caribbean’s biggest ever surfing event and this speaks to the quality of Barbados’ surfing product as well as the wider surf community’s eagerness to ride the waves at the iconic venue.
The upgrade increases the overall prize money to US$50 000 with an equal amount of $25 000 allocated for both the men’s and women’s divisions. (NM)
