BARP plan for younger members

Younger members of The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) will soon have access to a new health insurance plan.

During a media briefing yesterday at BARP headquarters, Marine Gardens, Christ Church, president Marilyn Rice-Bowen said they were fulfilling a promise and anticipated a greater influx of members once it was in place.

“We are following up on a promise we made on July 1 when we opened our doors for the 40 to 49 age group to join BARP. The significance of the offer is it is an open enrolment and I would encourage everyone in the age group to seize this opportunity . . . because one never knows when one’s health could change,” she said.

Rice-Bowen said some people might already have a health insurance plan provided by their employer but noted it could not hurt to have an individual plan. “What if your relationship with your work changes through downsizing, resignation or a parting of ways?” she asked.

She said the BARP plan would provide coverage regardless of where anyone worked. (CA)
