The Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club has announced a groundbreaking partnership with
Fairbreak Global, a prominent advocate for women’s cricket.
In a move aimed at promoting gender equality and inclusivity in cricket, the two entities
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to illustrate their joint commitment to
empower young girls through cricket by promoting physical fitness, developing cricketing
skills, fostering teamwork and instil confidence in girls, particularly in a sport traditionally
dominated by males.
The partnership will focus on expanding the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club’s initiatives
and cricket development programs across the Caribbean with the help of the Fairbreak’s
expertise and network
President of the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club Roland Butcher described the
collaboration as a significant milestone in their efforts to empower young girls through
cricket.
“Together we are committed to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for girls
to excel in the sport,” the former England International said.
Chief Executive Officer of Fairbreak, Cheryll Rogers echoed Butcher’s sentiments saying
“We are thrilled to partner with the Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club to further our shared
mission of promoting equality and inclusivity in cricket. Through this collaboration we aim to
inspire and empower the next generation of female cricketers in Barbados and beyond.”
Fairbreak Global is an Australian company that aims to improve gender equality, particular
in regards to cricket. The organisation hosted the first privately funded tournament in
women’s cricket in 2022 when the Fairbreak Invitational 2022 took place in Dubai from May 1
to 15th. The ICC sanctioned competition featured many of the game’s headline names
including current West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, Barbadian Deandra Dottin and
former West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor.
The second edition of the competition took place in 2023 with Hong Kong hosting the event.
