ST GEORGE’S – Slowly but surely the 31-member Barbados athletics squad is getting on track for tomorrow’s start of the 51st CARIFTA Games here in Grenada.
After arriving on Tuesday evening, the Barbadian athletes were able to get in a couple of training sessions at the Kirani James Stadium on Wednesday and yesterday.
Head coach Ramon Armstrong, assisted by Desiree Crichlow, Althea Belgrave and Jesse King, took the athletes through their paces.
After switching from the grass tracks used for the Louis Lynch and National Junior Championships at St George Secondary School to the newly laid synthetic Ryan Brathwaite Track at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex for last week’s Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships (BSSAC), a new challenge awaits the young Barbadian athletes, who also benefited from competition at the St Vincent and the Grenadines National Championships just before BSSAC.
