Appeal for national colon cancer screening

A BARBADIAN SURGEON has been joined by colleagues in appealing for a national annual screening test for colon cancer to reduce the increasing number of deaths from the disease.

Dr Sahle Griffith was supported by other doctors and advocates on Saturday when Cancer Support Services held a public discussion at the Parkinson Community Centre in The Pine, St Michael.

“I say that we must look at a national screening programme,” Griffith told the audience, adding that colon cancer was preventable.

Members of the audience noted the cost of colon cancer surgery could be between $4 000 and $5 000 which might be prohibitive to some people. (HH)
