Additional protection for domestic workers

Barbados has signed the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Convention (C-189) Domestic Workers, which offers domestic workers protection from exploitation by their employers.

The document was initialed by Minister of Labour and Third Sector Colin Jordan, and the Director General of the ILO, Gilbert Houngbo, at the end of a courtesy call on Friday with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at Ilaro Court.

Mottley, along with Minister in Economic Affairs Senator Chad Blackman, and other officials from Government and the ILO, witnessed the signing, which represents another step towards the decent work agenda and signals Barbados’ commitment to improving the conditions of workers in this sector.
