Heated exchange over ice turns physical

It started as a heated exchange over ice, but later erupted into shoes being thrown and kicks in the face between a man and his uncle.

When Reshawn Shamar Best, 26, of Pilgrim’s Land, Christ Church, appeared in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court yesterday, he confessed to assaulting his uncle Wesley Holder on June 30, and unlawfully and maliciously wounding him.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Glenda Carter-Nicholls told the court, sitting at the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex in Horse Hill, St Joseph, that around 5:45 a.m. that day, Holder went inside the refrigerator to get some ice to take to work.

As he was doing so, Best accosted him and accused him of taking all the ice. That caused a heated exchange during which Best threw a shoe at his uncle, hitting him on the left hip.

Holder notified police but by 5:45 p.m., the two men – who have a strained relationship – were in another altercation. (SD)
