The water prohibition has been extended until August 31, 2023.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Santia Bradshaw, announced the extension during a media conference at the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) on Friday.
Bradshaw said this decision was taken after consultation with the technical officials at the BWA as well as the El Nino effect which is still forecasting drought conditions for the island.
Additionally, she said in spite of the recent rainfall, there has been a drop in the groundwater levels and coastal aquifers are showing a higher than normal level of salinity (salt).
The water prohibition was introduced on April 24 and consideration was given to expire at the end of July, but that was shortened to June, with the caveat that it could be extended should conditions not improve. (Nation News)
