The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) is calling for a salary review in the public sector.
President Edwin O’Neal revealed CTUSAB had already made submissions for an increase for the period 2019-2022.
While he declined to go into detail on the specifics, he said labour could not be called upon to make all the sacrifices knowing the challenges the country currently faced.
O’Neal was speaking during a press conference at the headquarters of the Barbados Union of Teachers, Welches, St Michael.
General secretary Dennis Depeiza said the last increase for public sector workers was in 2018/2019, and it was time for a review.
He noted CTUSAB was not doing anything out of order, and they were in fact following in the same vein as other Caribbean islands, given the effects of the pandemic over the last two years, the high cost of living, and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. (RA)
