‘Cooling off’ time for accused

The behaviour of an accused man in court on Thursday evening, was such that Acting Magistrate Bernadeth John decided that Jaire Pedro Matthews needed “a cooling off period”.

She therefore remanded him to Dodds Prison until October 23.

The 18-year-old, of 1st Avenue Scott’s Terrace, Grazettes, St Michael, is facing four charges of damaging a shirt and trousers belonging to the State, or was reckless as to whether it would be damaged, damaging a pair of glasses belonging to Constable Jamar Yearwood, and assaulting and resisting Yearwood in the execution of his duties, all on October 19. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Constable Troy Tudor, objected to bail, based on the seriousness of the offences and where the alleged incidents took place – at the Black Rock Police Station. (SD)
