800m win does it for Baker

The Barbados Aquatic Sports Association’s Long Course National Championship concluded on Sunday night at the Aquatic Centre with 16-year-old Amelie Baker joining the list of qualified Carifta swimmers.

Baker won the 800m freestyle for 15-17 girls in 9:55.08 minutes, a “B” standard qualifying time for next month’s swimming championship. The competition’s age group winners all showcased their power in the pool.

Winner of the eight-and-under girls’ category, Gabriella Babb, took the 50m freestyle in 37.69 seconds. Boys’ winner Christian Vanderpool triumphed in the 50m freestyle in 37.46 seconds. Joshua Parris was second in 37.99 seconds.

Kaija Eastmond continued her dominance in the 9-10 girls’ division. She claimed the 50m freestyle in 32.69 seconds but was second in the 100m breaststroke in 1:37.47 minutes. Saniya Munnis was the winner in 1:31.78 minutes.
