40 more being trained under Get Hired Programme

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith, is urging 40 participants of the Get Hired Programme to be exemplary and use their talents to impress their future employers.

“I want you to embrace this. I implore you to adopt tunnel vision, in terms of how you treat to your work. Tunnel vision, you put blinkers on, left and right, you’re not distracted by what is happening on the left or right. You have a focus in terms of where you are going, you have a destination that you need to reach.

“You are the ambassadors for those who will come after you, so if you impact the employers, and have that kind of impact, then you make it a lot easier when there is a next cohort of young persons looking for jobs,” he told them.

Griffith was speaking this morning during the launch of this year’s Diverse Get Hired Employability Initiative, at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Needham’s Point, St Michael.

Already the programme, which is held in conjunction with The Prince’s Trust and partners with corporate entities, has trained 170 people, between the ages of 18 and 25. (RA)
