24 convictions ‘petty crimes’

Accused thief Rodney David Anthony claimed his past convictions were “petty crime”.

However, those 24 convictions, his lack of address and lack of surety saw him being remanded when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Anthony, 53, who has no fixed place of abode, had just pleaded not guilty to stealing a gas cylinder belonging to Margaret Squires on December 12, and another gas cylinder belonging to the same complainant, on December 16.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Vernon Waithe, in his objections to bail, cited the accused man’s lack of address and said he feared if the accused was released, officers would be unable to locate him. (HLE)
