CHANGING MINDSETS by a younger work force which do not regard the benefits of trade union membership as a priority need to be addressed through education that explains the benefits of collective representation.
This was the view of panelists who spoke at a public education forum organised by the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) at its Dalkeith headquarters on Tuesday evening.
Commenting on the topic Evolving or Endangered – The Role of Trade Unions in a Modern Workforce panelists attorney Michelle Russell and trade unionists Wayne Walrond and Julian Hunte argued that younger employees had different approaches to work than in the past.
Russell said for her generation “getting that one job” and achieving a measure of job security were priority.
She said in her day there was a community which looked out for each other compared with today when “I look out for me”. (HH)
