Two young women walked away with the top prizes in this year’s Scotiabank Junior Monarch Competition.
Yahandje Daniel and Shontae Alleyne-Clarke won the calypso and soca monarch titles, respectively, both earning $2 500 in cash and other prizes.
The competition, which returned to the Wildey Gymnasium after the break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, was held before an appreciative audience.
Daniel performed It Wasn’t Easy to get the nod ahead of another seasoned campaigner A@-lee-ah with Cry of The Children.
King K, whose War Zone was very well received by the audience, was third.
Performing under the moniker Tae, Alleyne-Clarke, wowed the audience with the Jason “Shaft” Bishop-penned Party Nice Again.
Trinity Clarke brought the Vybzz to take second place and Joshua Oxley (Joshox) was also a deserving third with Dip and Go Low. (SAT/AL)
