Two plead guilty to manslaughter

Two former teenagers who were part of a plan to rob but who were not there when bread man Hayden Mayers was shot dead, have pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the No. 4 Supreme Court.

Wayne Ricardo Bryan, then 17, of School Lane, Halls Road, St Michael, and Rashon Akeem Sealy, then 18, of 2nd Avenue, Alleyne’s Land, Bush Hall, St Michael, were each arraigned with murdering 50-year-old Mayers, formerly of Hinds Road, Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, St Michael, on November 8, 2018.

Each pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to unlawfully killing Mayers – manslaughter – on the same date.

“The intention was to rob and when an unlawful act is committed and death occurs, generally it is a matter of manslaughter as opposed to murder,” Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale said.

Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell ordered pre-sentencing reports on each man and adjourned the matters until September 22. (HLE)
