Six footer Damia Walrond came off the bench in the second quarter to lift the CO Williams Rangers to a remarkable 43-37 netball victory over the UWI Blackbirds when division one action continued at the Netball Stadium on Saturday night.
The 17 year old Christ Church Foundation student not only led Rangers with a game high 27 goals from 30 shots but she outscored UWI’s Shonica Wharton who normally out-soars all opponents.
The introduction of Walrond changed Rangers’ fortune after they were overran 12-2 in the first quarter.
UWI started with captain Conique Moore and Akeena Stoute in the defence circle while Wharton and Brianna Holder were the shooters. The swift Dayna Babb ran the circle with Damisha Croney at wing attack and Zakiya Kirton at wing defence. For Rangers Nikita Payne and Shaquilla Davis were the shooters with Rhe-Ann Niles-Mapp and Trinity Gibson in the defence circle. Tonisha Rock-Yaw ran the centre with Kerri King playing wing defence and Shanita Callender at wing attack. (KB)
