Teenager Kairos Greaves came on as a substitute for UWI Blackbirds in his first game in the Barbados Football Association’s Premier League and scored a 77th minute winning goal to hand Ensure Max Protein Weymouth Wales their first defeat of the season at the Wildey Turf on Sunday night.
After a game where neither side could break the deadlock up to that point, the 17-year-old Greaves, who attended The St Michael School before enrolling at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology, collected the ball just outside the congested 18-yard box.
Instead of passing to an open teammate, he trusted his marksmanship and struck a perfectly paced and well-placed shot through traffic to the bottom right corner of goalkeeper Kishmar Primus’ goal, stunning Wales in the process.
The supporters, who came out in droves erupted with applause and cheers understanding an upset was in the making which was finally materialised with UWI winning 1-0.
