Students may soon relocate

Scores of students who attend Lawrence T. Gay Memorial School may soon be having face-to-face classes in a different location as education officials look to shift them and teaching staff affected by environmental problems at the school.

Yesterday after a tour of the Spooner’s Hill, St Michael school, Minister of Education Kay McConney, who was accompanied by a contingent of education officials, told reporters that the ministry was in talks with church leaders in the area in order to use their buildings.

“We have started the process of speaking with some churches in the area and a number of churches have expressed an interest in working with us. We now have to work out the logistics and the specifics of how many students can go where and what type of facilities might be available to them, what else we might need to boost the plant and to make them more comfortable.

“So yes, there are some churches we have approached and until such time as we have sealed the deal with them I would prefer just to say that the churches in the nearby community, many of them have been very cooperative and very willing to help,” she said. (SB)
