The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Small Craft Warning and High Surf Advisory for the island due to above-normal swell heights.
Moderate to rough seas are currently affecting Barbados and are expected to persist over the coming days.
Marine users and beachgoers are being urged to exercise extreme caution.
The BMS has warned that large open-water swells may pose hazards to small vessels, making operations difficult at times. Beach conditions may be choppy and individuals are advised to use beaches with active lifeguards on duty.
The advisory comes as a strengthening Atlantic high-pressure system generates strong winds, increasing swell heights across the maritime area. Swells between 2.0 and 3.0 meters are already being observed, with further increases to between 3.0 and 3.5 meters anticipated by Wednesday, February 12.
The situation is expected to peak between Thursday and Friday.
The advisory was issued today, February 11, 2025 and will be updated at noon on Thursday, February 13. (BMS)
