Some shopkeepers are on high alert because of the recent increase in aggravated burglaries and robberies.
While some said they would adjust their opening hours, others plan to improve their security by installing surveillance cameras.
Operator of Lucas Bar, Eveline Lucas, said although their opening hours would remain the same, cameras were their next step.
The 83-year-old gave that update yesterday after a thief ran off with hundreds of dollars from the Weston, St James bar on Monday.
“A guy came in the shop and he said he wanted a Plus. I said, ‘A bottle or can’? He said he wanted a can so when I turned my back is when he jumped over and took up the money that was in the box.
