A report of rodents at St Paul’s Primary School in Brittons Cross Road, St Michael, yesterday afternoon, prompted visits from Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) officials.
First vice-president Julian Pierre, chairman of the union’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee, said his deputy Andre Holder, who is also second vice-president of the BUT, had notified him of the issue.
Before he arrived, officials from Government’s Vector Control Unit had visited the school. He added they inspected areas, checked on the bait and recognised a few areas that needed cleaning.
“I also did my own inspection and saw that outside the school needs to be maintained. Lack of groundsmen here [and other schools] is a huge problem. That heavy lifting and the extra cleaning that is needed on the outside is not done because the janitors don’t deal with the outside of the premises.” (NS)
