Retailers ‘ready’

Although a shipping delay in the Caribbean has impacted businesses, some major retailers in Bridgetown say they are prepared for the expected demand this Yuletide season.

Managing director of Abed’s, Eddy Abed, was one who gave that outlook yesterday as retailers opened their doors forSunday business.

“We’ve had some issues this year with congestion in both Trinidad and Jamaica, which are the main hubs in the Caribbean for moving trade, so that has delayed us. Because of that, I think this November was not quite as good as last year.

“However, a lot of that merchandise will be in our stores next week, so we are extremely optimistic because the season looks good and I think it’s going to do well when it gets here,” Abed said.
