Niall Reid-Stephen has emerged as one of the best attacking players in the Barbados Football Association Premier League, as he scored yet another goal for UWI Blackbirds to help them defeat Empire 2-0 on Sunday night at the Friendship ground in St Michael.
The striker, who proudly wears the iconic No. 10 shirt for the team from Cave Hill, is making a strong case for the Golden Boot award as he has scored in all but one of the nine games he has played this season.
His 69th-minute goal was a thing of beauty as he used his searing pace to get under a ball headed into the final third and deftly lobbed it over Empire ’keeper Jerome Blackman, who was charging off his line, to open the scoring.
Empire, who are in the relegation zone, brought the fight to UWI and played as if their place in the Premier League depended on it. They were still very much in the game before Shomari Harewood’s 73rd- minute strike was clearly deflating for the Empire side, understanding they would need three goals in just over 15 minutes to secure three valuable points.
