C. O. Williams Rangers showed Police Boys’ and Girls’ Club the difference between defending champions and a newly promoted team when the Barbados Netball Association’s Premier League continued on Wednesday night at the Netball Stadium.
League queens Rangers totally outplayed newcomers Police 59-32 after overcoming a surprising deficit of 7-8 to move to 18 points from four games while Police dropped to three losses and three points. Rangers motored from a first-quarter lead of 12-8 to 26-12 at half-time and 37-25 after the third quarter to set up a margin of victory of 16 goals as Police seemed more comfortable battling themselves than their opponents.
After an opening tight quarter, Rangers took their game to a level beyond Police, who looked challenging in the early exchanges, locking the scores from three up to seven. However, after Police eased to 8-7, Rangers took charge sinking 11 successive goals before Police scored again.
The architect of that dominance was the all-round play of veteran Nikita Payne, who ended with 17 goals from 22 shots, and Charlene Jordan, who continued to enjoy a starting role, sinking 18 goals from 20 attempts with Police’s national defender Carla Boyce and captain Shauntelle Watkins being no hindrance.
