Police probing death of child thrown from a building

Kingston – Jamaica police say a five-month-old girl has died after allegedly being thrown from the three storey building in the Barrett Town community, north west of the capital on Wednesday night.

They said that the child’s mother could face charges linked to infanticide.

The police said that the baby was allegedly thrown from building as the parents were engaged in a heated argument where the father refused to discuss their relationship.

The police say the woman, who then jumped from the building, remains in hospital since the incident on Wednesday.

“Both the mother and the infant were urgently taken to Falmouth Hospital. The child was later transferred to Cornwall Regional Hospital due to the severity of her injuries, which included significant trauma to the side of her head,” said the police.

The infant was pronounced dead at Cornwall Regional Hospital on Thursday.

“Police investigations continue as the community seeks to come to terms with this tragic event. Mental health professionals have been called in to support the affected family and residents,” the police added. (CMC)
