Playing for peace

The National Peace Programme will continue to use sports as a vehicle to bring communities together with the aim of curbing violence among young people in Barbados.

That assurance has come from Attorney General Dale Marshall following the conclusion of the St Joseph T20 Blast Tournament last Saturday night at the Grantley Adams Memorial School ground in Blackmans, with more than 3 000 spectators attending the final.

Marshall made it clear the tournament, which was won by the Raymond Kellman St Joseph Togetherness team, was sponsored by the National Peace Programme, which falls under his ministry.

“Its purpose is to bring the community together and try to re-establish the traditions that we used to have that are community-building and progressive. In that regard, it has been a tremendous success for the vendors, for the participants, all around but for the sport itself, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am,” he told NATION SPORT.
