Finals’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) Deroni Hurley led Pinelands to a dramatic 101-95 victory over the Station Hill Cavaliers in Sunday’s championship match in the Co-Operators General Insurance BABA Premier League President’s Cup.
Avid supporters who packed the Barbados Community College gym witnessed what could only be described as a masterclass of basketball.
Captain Hurley contributed 27 points, five assists and an unbelievable 10 steals in Pinelands’ triumph.
He was fearless in attack, using his small stature to blaze past Cavs’ players coupled with gravity defying finishes at the basket.
Hurley showed nerves of steel from the foul line, sinking 10 of his 11 free throws. His highlight of the night was in the last few minutes of the game where he hit two successive treys to secure the trophy, evoking deafening roars from spectators. (DG)
