A doctor who performed the autopsy on the brother of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley told a Coroner’s Inquest last Friday the cause of death was reached after having access to all the necessary information.
Dr Shubhakar Paul, the forensic pathologist who conducted the post-mortem on Warren Mottley, vehemently denied suggestions from attorneys representing the medical facility where Mottley had undergone surgery last year, that he had prepared a report on the cause of death without having integral material evidence.
Paul, an employee of Government’s Forensic Sciences Centre, testified that he had been in receipt of all of the necessary information when he reached a conclusion that Mottley died from sepsis, brought on by an infection which stemmed from the perforation of the small bowel during laparoscopic surgery on June 27 last year.
Mottley died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on June 29, 2021, after what was considered a routine laparoscopic procedure (colonoscopy) at Surgical Solutions’ medical facility in Warrens, St Michael. (BA)
