Boosted by the addition of Premier League players, newly promoted Wilfred Abrahams and DeTech Electronics Parish Land Football Club (FC) will be ready when the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Second Division season kicks off today.
Parish Land were promoted along with Cave Hill Football Club who finished at the top of the table last season and club president Kemar Ward told NATION SPORT, he is confident they can emerge among the front-runners in the 2025 season.
The team will be bolstered by striker Janash Jaunai from Premier League champions, Weymouth Wales and former Paradise forward, Jamal Watson-Cummins.
“Janash scored a hat trick in a practice match and Jamal scored a free kick so I believe they are ready to go. They are leaving the top flight to play in the Second Division so they are expected to do well this season,” Ward said.
Parish Land’s highest level in their history was in the First Division back in 2015 and they have been relegated twice since but Ward says they will not rest on their laurels as he is determined to eventually take the club to the Premier League.
“We are a club that has good support and sponsorship and it has been helping us to attract better players. We are a team that is about unity and we believe in a positive attitude throughout the squad. We have a good balance of older players, with the eldest being 32 and young players in their 20’s with the youngest being 16. Our philosophy when it comes to play is passing and relaxed football that does not invite unnecessary pressure. We lost no games last season and we expect to do the same this season although the competition is higher,” Ward said.
Ward, who became club president in September 2022, was brimming with confidence as he spoke about his strengthened squad and said he expects to dominate the BFA’s Second Division as his squad is formidable from defence to attack.
Parish Land were clearly punching well above their weight in last year’s inaugural Prime Minister’s Cup where they trounced First Division team, St Andrew Lions 5-0 in the group stage where they finished second behind Deacons before they were eventually eliminated by Premier League side, Wotton in the round of 16.
Ward added that their sponsors, Abrahams, who is the Member of Parliament for Christ Church East and DeTech Electronics have offered endless support over the years and he hopes to continue their relationship
as they progress as a football club and strive to reach new heights.
